Paludarium
Update: Unfortunately, due to our move in 2015, the paludarium started leaking (it was quite some hassle to move it). As fixing the leak was nearly impossible, it started a second life as chameleon housing. Currently, I have no frogs, but I plan to start again in a few years when I (hopefully) have the time again.
In 2011 I started building my own so-called show-paludrarium. This type of paludarium is meant to be in your living room as a show piece, instead of using it primarily for breeding purposes. It is made out of water resistant glued wood with an epoxy coating. It measures 130cm long x 65cm wide x 110cm high. It features a waterfall and a 30 cm aquarium part with some cardinal tetra, croaking gouramies, Corydoras paleatus and Apistrogramma cacatuoides females. In addition, poison dart frog wise, two Ranitomeya ventrimaculata and six Hyloxalus azureiventri populate the paludarium. The build log of this paludarium can be found in the section "Bouwverslag" but it is in Dutch unfortunately. Maybe if I have some spare time in the future I may translate it.
Occasionally, the frogs will produce offspring, see for more information the section Hyloxalus azureiventri. They lay eggs on a bromelia leaf that will be guarded by the male. After approximately 10 days the tadpoles will emerge and will crawl onto the back of the male. He will carry them around until a good water pool is spotted where he will drop them off. After that the parental care stops and the tadpoles are on their own. I provide small plant pots with water for the male to deposit his tadpoles and these I remove from the paludarium and raise them myself. A story of the most recent breeding attemp can be found in the section "Breeding" and is in English.
